Hermitage of Croce Santa in Rosolini
The Hermitage of Croce Santa in Rosolini is a very important archaeological and cult place for the city.
Located within the Cava d'Ispica is a rock hermitage of great artistic and historical value.
It is made up of four churches dug into the rock, two of which were partially destroyed by the earthquakes of 786 AD. and in 1167 AD.
The third church, consisting of a nave, presents a series of frescoes of saints of great historical value. Finally, the fourth church is known as the Grotta del Bove because a legend which tells of the discovery of a wooden cross: in fact it is said that an ox was not making it which today is kept in the Church of the Santissimo Crocifisso.
Near the hermitage there is a Roman aqueduct.
