Church of San Tommaso al Pantheon in Syracuse
The Church of San Tommaso al Pantheon in Syracuse is considered to be the main " Monument to the Fallen of the First World War ", because inside it rests the remains of the Syracusan soldiers perished at the front during the First World War.
The building, in modern style, was designed by the architect Gaetano Rapisardi in 1919. The structure has a cylindrical section and is characterized by large pillars divided by large windows that support a small terrace including some small windows surmounted by stone crosses. At the top of the church there is a small bell tower in reinforced concrete. Next to the bronze portal is the commemorative plaque in memory of the victims of the First World War.
Internally, the church has a single circular nave where the tombstones and the remains of the Syracusans who fell on the front are found. The altar Next to the main wing there are valuable sacred works of the contemporary era.
