War Memorial in Solarino
The war memorial in Solarino, built by Luciano Patania in the last century at the behest of the podestà Salvatore Cianci, was erected in memory of the fallen of Solarino in the Second World War.
The monument commemorates the fallen in the battle of 13 July 1943 , when in the countryside around the town of Solarino, after three days of fighting, one of the bloodiest clashes of the Second World War ended in Sicily, which went down in history as the Battle of Solarino.
On the occasion of the first centenary of the entry of Italy into the war, the missing names of the fallen have been added to the monument, omitted by podestà Cianci only because they did not die on the battlefield.
