Church of SS. Annunziata in Casalvecchio Siculo
The Church of the Santissima Annunziata in Casalvecchio Siculo is an ancient building of worship in the village.
It was built in the sixteenth century but over the centuries it has undergone numerous alterations. The church was subservient to the Basilian monks of the nearby Norman Monastery of SS. Pietro and Paolo d'Agrò who established the confraternity of the Annunziata here.
It has a simple gabled façade where a single portal opens up surmounted by a circular window. Laterally, in an advanced position, rises the Campanian tower with a square base and spire.
The interior, with a single nave, houses a 17th century canvas and a wooden sculpture from 1742 depicting the Annunciation, the work of Francesco Di Nardo, Neapolitan sculptor who created some of the first Neapolitan nativity scenes.
