Church of San Teodoro in Casalvecchio Siculo
The Church of San Teodoro Martire in Casalvecchio Siculo is an ancient building of worship in the village. It stands in the lower part of the town and is dedicated to the Madonna dell'Idria.
It was built in the sixteenth century according to what emerged from the studies of professor Stefano Bottari. In 1662 the adjoining Convent of the Discalced Augustinians was built and, in 1678, this was declared a Priory House as it housed twelve religious people.
The façade has a very large surface area with a single portal surmounted by a broken tympanum with a slight overhang and a marble panel depicting San Teodoro defeating the dragon.
The interior, with a single nave, houses the canvases of the seventeenth century painter and humanist from Casalvetino Antonino Cannavò.
Remains of the adjoining convent today only a few ruins are visible.
