Church of Saints Cosma and Damiano in Casalvecchio Siculo
The Church of Saints Cosma and Damiano in Casalvecchio Siculo stands in a splendid panoramic position overlooking the valley below and is the destination of numerous pilgrims who go there on the occasion of the festival.
It was built between 1930 and 1950 thanks to the generous contribution of the faithful. The building stands in the place where the two small churches dedicated, one to San Cosimo and the other to San Jacopo, were located. According to tradition, in the church of San Jacopo there was a statue of the Saint so tall that it touched the ceiling. Unfortunately, no trace remains of this statue, probably because it was modeled directly on the site in bricks, stones, lime and plaster and therefore, being untransportable, it was destroyed together with the church.
It is not known how mysteriously why the cult of San Jacopo has been totally forgotten.
