Vernà Mountain
The mountain of Vernà, also called Pizzo di Vernà, Pizzo Polo or Muntagna i Po, rises in the western part of the Peloritani Mountains and lies on the territories of Antillo, Casalvecchio Siculo and Fondachelli Fantina.
The site is a destination for hikers for its characteristic Mediterranean vegetation and for the splendid panorama offered which embraces the Ionian coast, Etna, the Rocca di Salvatesta and the Tyrrhenian coast.
The base of the mountain can be reached via the Peloritana Ridge, an ancient route, known in the past as the Military Road, which connects the two Peloritani passes of Portella San Rizzo, in Messina, and Portella Mandrazzi, in Novara di Sicilia.
