Necropolis of Cuculunazzo
The Archaeological Site of Cocolonazzo di Castelmola , also known as Necropolis of Cuculunazzu , represents the first settlement of the ancient Myle by the Sicilians dating back to VIII century BC
The site is a protohistoric necropolis with an "artificial cave" from the 10th-7th century. to. C., of considerable importance for the knowledge of the settlements prior to the Greek colonization.
It is located on the Ficare floor and can be reached starting from the Castelmola road and following the path that leads to a rocky prominence, the necropolis of Cuculunazzo. Inside the caves, ceramic fragments of the plumed type with painted decoration, dating back to the Iron Age, were found.
The archaeological finds of the archaeological area of Cocolonazzo are kept at the “Paolo Orsi” museum in Syracuse.
The water wells built by Andronaco in 367 BC are also of considerable interest. present in the same area.
