Church of Santa Maria delle Preci in Limina
The Church of Santa Maria delle Preci in Limina, also known as the church of the Madonna delle Preghiere, is a small and ancient place of worship dedicated to the co-patron saint of the village.
It was built in 1397 on the site where a synagogue once stood 9th century Hebrew. In fact, in this area stood the ancient Jewish ghetto of Judeca, where until the 11th century there was a rich colony of Jews who escaped the persecution of Upper Egypt.
The simple gabled façade, made of rough stone, presents a single portal surmounted by a rectangular window.
Inside the church we find: a masonry altar; a baptismal font with the IHS monogram; 4 crypts for the burial of the notables and ecclesiastics of the time, the first of these crypts was the mass grave; the sink source located in the sacristy; the wooden statues of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Prayers, a work by Gangeri dating back to 1860, and of Saint Anthony; the canvas of Saint Philip of Agira, a work by Garufi Santo from 1958.
It is also possible to observe the different types of flooring that have been superimposed over the centuries.
