Church of San Giuseppe in Nizza di Sicilia
The church of San Giuseppe in Nizza di Sicilia is the main place of worship in the city and is dedicated to the patron saint San Giuseppe and the Madonna Assunta.
The church originally constituted the private chapel of the Princes of Alcontres, as evidenced by the noble coat of arms that once dominated the main arch.
On the occasion of the restoration that took place in the early 2000s, a new artistic glass window was installed on the facade depicting Saint Joseph holding the Infant Jesus in his arms, designed and executed by the Messina master Rosariò Arnò.
Among the works kept inside it of particular value is an ancient Crucifix from the 16th century. The restoration work revealed that the crucifix, over the centuries, had been entirely covered with plaster. Today it is possible to admire it in its original beauty.
