Ancient Prison of Land of Savoca
The prisons of Savoca, now reduced to ruins, are located in a wing of the ancient Palazzo della Curia.
Originally the ancient prison of the Terra di Savoca was located in the territory of Casalvecchio Siculo, when it became independent from the dominion of Savoca, the prisons were moved to the center of Savoca. From 1855, when Savoca ceased to be the capital of its district, it was no longer used and fell into ruin. It partially collapsed in 1908 and was never rebuilt.
Of the original structure there remain few wall remains and a square window, closed with a wrought iron grate, on which the Archimandrite's coat of arms stood, removed and kept in the local museum.
Inside it is still visible a cistern which was used for the water supply of a large part of the town.
