The archaeological site of Monte Bonifato, in Alcamo, represents the remains of an ancient inhabited center called Longuro, founded by a colony of Greeks who fled from Troy. This site is believed to have been inhabited since the 7th century BC. to the 12th century AD
A peripheral urban district was identified on the site, in which the presence of man is confirmed from the 8th century BC. until the 13th century AD. The last urban settlement dates back to medieval times, around the XIII century AD. In 1396, after the restoration of the Ventimiglia Castle, the site was definitively abandoned.
Remains and remains of very ancient settlements were found on this site, including a house dating back to the 6th-7th century BC. and pottery and bronze shards exhibited at the Baglio Anselmi Museum in Marsala. Medieval cisterns dating back to the 13th century AD have also been found.
