Caves of Scurati in Custonaci
The Scurati Caves are one of the most interesting sites within the territory of Custonaci.
They represent both an ancient prehistoric settlement and a speleological geosite of considerable interest.
The caves are located near the hamlet of Scurati in the municipality of Custonaci. There are a total of nine caves, some of which are located within the Monte Cofano nature reserve. The names of the nine caves are: Mangiapane , Buffa , & nbsp; Crucifix , Romanian , Miceli, Cufuni , Clava , Maria Santissima and Abisso del Purgatorio .
The most famous of these is the Mangiapane Cave, dating back to the Paleolithic period, and inhabited until the 1950s.
