Erice is a medieval village perched on Mount San Giuliano which dominates the tip of Western Sicily.
Its origins are lost in Greek mythology: it was founded by Erix, son of Aphrodite, who died in a battle with Hercules to defend it . Its history is ancient: Erice was inhabited by the Elimi population who fortified it and built a temple in honor of the goddess of love.
In Erice, art, history and landscapes come together in a superlative medieval context with towers, Cyclopean walls, and monuments of considerable value. Famous for its local craftsmanship and delicious pastry.
