Capo Boeo in Marsala
Capo Lilibeo , also known as Capo Boeo , is located at the extreme western tip of Sicily , in the territory of Marsala. So called because in this place stood Lilibeo, an ancient Carthaginian city.
Capo Lilibeo is one of the three promontories that stand out and that somehow delimit the triangular perimeter of the island of Sicily. Near Messina is Capo Peloro, the extreme north-eastern tip of the island, where the legendary sea monster of Charybdis once stood. In the province of Syracuse rises Capo Passero, the southern tip of the island, which also gives its name to the island of sand and protected dwarf palm, which is located a few meters away. These three Heads are linked by the legend of the three Nymphs and by the Myth of Tifeo.
In the exact position where Capo Lilibeo stands, there is a large obelisk that mentions the most important events that took place in the body of water in front of it and a commemorative plaque of the Marsala victims of the Ustica massacre of 27 June 1980.
