Botteghelle Gate in Trapani
The Porta Botteghelle is one of the gates of the city of Trapani .
At the end of the 13th century James II of Aragon wanted to develop the city and had a new wall built wall which, incorporating the ancient square layout, extended it to the north-west. The new perimeter was equipped with eleven doors and among these that of the Botteghelle which gave access to a small cemetery located outside the walls. The Porta delle Botteghelle was enlarged in the 14th century. The door gives its name to the beach below, which stretches out under the Tramontana Walls.
Diametrically opposite was the Porta Serisso , to which a popular story made of love and blood is linked .
