Sicilian Coffa
Clothing
The coffa is a typical Sicilian bag made entirely by hand, intertwining the curine, that is the tender and most resistant part of the Sicilian dwarf palm leaves. The coffa was originally a tool used in agricultural activities: it was born as a basket used to forage horses and positioned on horseback on the back of the mule it was used for the transport of household goods. The Coffa today, skilfully adorned, has been transformed into a bag, into a splendid fashion accessory, into a singular piece of furniture and design. The coffa is decorated through the use of mirrors, ribbons, typical images, doilies, mini tambourines, miniature fruit. In this way, real unique objects appreciated in the world are created. The coffa is today a vehicle for the diffusion of a Sicilian symbol that smells of tradition.
