Leonforte Peach PGI

Francesco Mng - CC4.0

Leonforte peach PGI is cultivated, with a centuries-old tradition made of natural crossings between exclusive local late varieties. The most common cultivars are yellow-fleshed, but there are also white-fleshed ones. They are late peaches because they ripen in September and October, when the other national varieties have already finished their production some time ago. The peculiarity that distinguishes Leonfort's peach-growing is the practice of bagging the individual fruits, still on the tree, starting from the second half of June. The fruit is thus naturally protected inside its parchment paper bag that will accompany it until harvest, at the same time offering a fruit without external defects or imperfections that will ripen better and retain its incomparable scent and aroma inside the "tile". The Leonforte yellow peach has a greenish yellow skin, more or less evident red streaks, yellow pulp, firm, aromatic and adherent to the stone.
