Capuchin Church in Caltabellotta
The Capuchin Church, or Church of San Francesco d'Assisi in Caltabellotta, located on the southern outskirts of the town, was originally part of the now disappeared Capuchin convent founded in 1614.
The church has a linear cuspidate façade with an architraved portal.
L inside, with a single nave, it houses works that testify to the intense monastic history of the past. Of particular value are: the altarpiece of the Madonna and Child with saints and Capuchin friars in adoration at the feet, the work of Fra Felice da Sambuca from the second half of the 18th century; a monumental walnut altar rich in carvings and sculptures dating back to the early eighteenth century; the splendid eighteenth-century wooden crucifix placed on the high altar.
