Via Dante Alighieri, 23 - Licata (AG)

The Archaeological Museum of the Badia di Licata is located on the ground floor and in the cloister & nbsp; of the sixteenth-century Cistercian convent of Santa Maria del Soccorso, better known still today as Badia.
The museum illustrates the history and characters of human settlements in the territory of Licata and the lower Imera valley. In particular, on the Montagna di Licata there was an archaic Greek center which expanded in the Hellenistic period on the nearby heights of Monserrato and Monte Sole. In it in 280 BC. the tyrant of Agrigento Finzia, transferred the populations of Gela, after the destruction of the latter, founding a new city which took the name of Phintias.
The museum also has a collection of medieval art and some canvases from the suppressed convents in the 800.
In the cloister are exhibited lithic finds and architectural elements of different origins and the medieval statues coming from the convent of the Annunziata, and a Madonna del Soccorso by Domenico Gagini dated 1470 coming from the homonymous church.
