Church of St. John the Baptist in Naro

The Church of San Giovanni Battista in Naro is a place of worship located along the ancient Via dei Monasteri, the current Via Dante Alighieri.
The church and convent were founded in 1610 by the Dominican Fathers in Naro, under the title of San Giovanni Battista. An important renovation was carried out in 1752, by the architect Pietro Mammana of Girgenti. Subsequent alterations led to the elimination of the entrance and the staircase of the Church and its transformation into a chapel. The church and the convent are now owned by the Immaculate Conception Institute.
The facade of the church and the view of the convent along Via Dante, made of sandstone tuff, have valuable balcony brackets in the window frames.
The interior, with a single nave, is decorated with stucco dating back to 1780 and, in the vault, with three large fresco paintings with stories of San Domenico, the work of Domenico Provenzani.
Among the works kept in the church, of value are: the high altar, the work of the sculptor Calogero Vinci da Naro and the canvas of the Preaching of the Baptist, one of the most beautiful works by Provenzani, located on the high altar.
