Church of the Immaculate Conception in Motta Sant'Anastasia
The Church of the Immaculate Conception in Motta Sant'Anastasia, also known as the Church of the SS. Sacramento, is the oldest religious building in the village. It is believed to be the first place where the relics of the Patron Saint Anastasia were kept.
The date of construction of the church is not known but it is believed that it already existed in medieval times. It was rebuilt in the 17th century.
The façade, with a flat terminal, is delimited by two parastras that support a tympanum with a slightly overhanging pediment, and is crowned by a large bell tower with two arches; one of the two bells bears the year 1815 and a medallion with the effigy of the Virgin Mary. In the center there is a single trabeated portal, exquisitely inlaid, surmounted by a circular opening.
The interior of the church houses, above the main altar, the simulacrum of the Immaculate Conception of inestimable value artistic. It is a seventeenth-century work in Andalusian style. Of particular value is the golden raflaga ray that halos the statue with tongues of fire. The sunburst features winged heads of cherubs and polychrome angels.
Among the other works kept in the church, noteworthy are some canvases by unknown artists from the 17th and 18th centuries depicting Saint Barbara, Saint Agatha and Saint Lucia, the Holy Family , Saints Joachim, Anna and Joseph with Mary and Jesus and Saint Nicholas of Bari.
