Church of Sant'Antonio in Motta Sant'Anastasia
The Church of Sant'Antonio da Padova in Motta Sant'Anastasia is a modern building of worship.
The original building was built in the 17th century: it was a simple rectangular hall with an apse and a sober gabled façade, inside covered with simple stuccoes and frescoes. It served as a cemetery until the mid-19th century. Following the flood of 1964 it was closed to worship due to the extensive damage sustained and subsequently demolished together with the crypt. In the early 70s of the last century, on the same site, the current structure was built based on a design by the engineer Salvatore Leonardi.
The building has a predominantly centralized development, consisting of a prism with an octagonal base surmounted by a pitched vault inclined. The centric space is connected to the facade by a short rectilinear body. The gabled façade with access door is dominated by an effigy of the saint in the round and decoration in iron and copper, the work of Rosario Valenti, an artist from Motte.
Inside the church are kept: the relics of the saint , a small bone fragment; a 17th century wooden crucifix; the mosaic windows; the Way of the Cross in bas-relief on wood.
