Park of Myths in Zafferana
Park of Myths in Zafferana Etnea is a structure equipped with exhibition areas on the theme of mythology which aims to bring children closer to the knowledge of the myths and history of Sicily.
The visit to the museum includes the projection-show of a docufilm on the history of Sicily, the main events, the numerous colonizations and the current importance of the island as a place in the center of the Mediterranean Sea. Furthermore, the projection of the film becomes a real show thanks to the brand new technological systems that enrich it with interactivity and involvement.
The museum tour continues with a visit to the cave where the gigantic Cyclops Polyphemus, protagonist of the famous episode of the Odyssey, will appear. Then you will follow the natural path to meet the God Hephaestus intent on forging weapons in his underground forge, the throne of Zeus, to reach which you will have to go up a climb that recalls Mount Olympus with the images of the most famous gods; the shell of Aphrodite, goddess of beauty and love.
Among the other attractions there is the Trojan Horse, a giant wooden structure, 6 meters high, equipped with a slide and ladder to accommodate children inside and to play recalling the famous strategy devised by Ulysses to defeat the Trojans and place end to war; The Ship of Ulysses, a real wooden boat placed on the green lawn at the foot of the promontory on which Polyphemus stands intent on throwing a huge boulder. Children can get on the boat, enter the small hold and play with the rudder and oars.
Inside the museum there is an area equipped with canopies and services and has a large lawn with games on the constellations and the legends of the related characters.
The structure is enriched by the Labyrinth and interactive paths on Orientation (with the sundial, the sundial, the Rose of the Winds and the panel on the seasons with the legend of the Rape of Proserpina).
Along the paths, aided by a map, visitors will have to find the mythical Stone Faces, primitive-style sculptures perfectly camouflaged among the lava rocks created by Maestro A. Barrica di Zafferana.
