Mother Church in Alimena
The Mother Church of Alimena, the main religious building of the village, is dedicated to the patron saint Maria Maddalena.
It was built in 1731 at the behest of the Prince of Belvedere Vincenzo Del Bosco, who had it built in front of the palace of the lordship.
The simple salient façade, in stone, presents as its only decorative element the external portal, on which the three coats of arms of the three feudal families who succeeded one another in the lordship of the State were sculpted, surmounted by a quadrangular window. Behind the church stands the bell tower, the top floor of which was built in 1924.
The interior has a Latin cross plan, is divided into three naves by a majestic colonnade, and is illuminated by many windows.
Among the works kept inside the church, of excellent workmanship, are: a small wooden pulpit leaning against a column; the organ from the 1700s, located on a small wooden balcony over the main door; a statue of the Immaculate Conception created by Francesco Sorge.
