Madonna della Catena Church in Gangi
The Church of the Madonna della Catena in Gangi is one of the oldest places of worship in the village. It stands in the upper part of the village, opposite the College of Mary. The façade is punctuated by rows of elegantly carved pillars and divided by a double projecting cornice. The rich portal is refined by a pair of columns. finely inlaid, which support a pediment with a curved perimeter. The date 1647 is engraved on the key of the arch, the year of completion of the stone portal.
The interior, with a single nave, has a vault decorated with frescoes by the Panormite De Caro. At the back there is a side chapel and, on the opposite side, the sacristy.
Among the works kept in the church, of particular artistic value are: the statuary groups of the Madonna della Catena placed on the main altar, attributed to Quattrocchi; the Madonna del Rosario with S. Domenico, a documented work by Quattrocchi; the marble statue of the Madonna della Catena from the 15th/16th century, presumably of the Gaginian school.
The Church is the seat of the confraternity of the Rosary, established in 1583, and of the confraternity of the Madonna della Catena established in 1621.
