Pomieri Nature Monuments Trail
The path of the Monuments of Nature in Pomieri, in the Parco delle Madonie, leads to t magnificent specimens of centuries-old monumental trees: an oak, a maple field and a mountain maple.
The short-lasting path, immersed in a mixed oak and holly wood, begins near the entrance of the Hotel Pomieri.
The first example is Rovere of Pomieri with an estimated age of about 600 years, a height of about 22 meters and a trunk of about 7 meters in circumference, which is divided, two meters above the ground, into four large branches whose arrangement recalls that of a candlestick, the largest of which reaches a circumference of 4 meters.
Immediately afterwards, a specimen of Field Maple whose estimated age is about 500 years. 15 meters high, it has a sturdy trunk that reaches a circumference of 4.20 meters, and a thick crown of rounded shape whose projection occupies an area of about 200 square meters.
The last specimen is the Maple. mountain of Passo Canale with an estimated age of about 400 years, a circumference of 6 meters in length, and a trunk characterized by the presence of a deep cavity due, presumably, to the action of lightning. The canopy casts a shadow of about 300 m2 on the ground.
