Mother Church in Valledolmo
The Mother Church in Valledolmo dedicated to the Immaculate Conception is the main building of worship in the village.
It was built in the 17th century, at the behest of Countess Cristina as, given the growing number of the population, it was the oldest church in the Anime Sante was inadequate.
The church stands on a long semi-hexagonal flint staircase which enhances the size of the building.
The gabled façade, punctuated by pilasters, has a single portal with a round arch flanked by two pilasters that support the entablature on which rests a niche with the statue of Saint Anthony of Padua. On the left side rises the bell tower: the largest of the four bells, dedicated to the Saint of Padua, according to tradition has the virtue of warding off storms with its strong vibrations.
The interior, with a single nave, is adorned with artistic stucco work dating back to the early twentieth century.
Of notable artistic value is the wooden and golden statue of the Immaculate Conception, first venerated in the Church of the Madonna del Buon Pensiero, today's Church of the Holy Souls. Among the other works kept in the church, we remember: the painting of the Virgin decorated with Eucharistic symbols in bas-relief, placed on the main altar; the wooden statue of Saint Anthony of Padua; two large canvases depicting two miraculous events attributed to the Saint of Padua.
