The kiosks of Catania are a unique tradition in the world, they are particular structures where you can taste typical drinks.
The kiosks, which can have various shapes, from the octagonal ones in Art Nouveau style, the oldest, to the rectangular ones, the most modern, are small businesses that supply drinks or coffee.
Born in 1896 as places where you could stop in the shade to savor water and aniseed and other simple preparations, today they have become the rendezvous for every Catanese and one of the distinctive features of Catania and its surroundings.
Originally there were only three kiosks in Catania, one in Piazza Duomo, one in Piazza Stesicoro and one in Piazza Cavour. Following an ordinance of the early twentieth century, the kiosks were moved to less central areas of the city due to the traffic jams they caused due to the crowds they attracted. Today the kiosks have multiplied in number, remain open all year round and have also become a meeting place for the new generations.
Among the many drinks that can be found in the kiosks, the most popular and popular drink is the Lemon Seltz and salt. It is also possible to find seltzer with tamarind, mandarin, black cherry syrup and various other flavors. Furthermore, among the various colored bottles that crowd the shelves of the kiosks there are also syrups with chopped fruit. Then, the novelty of recent years cannot be missing: milkshakes, now made in different versions, from the classic version with Nutella, pistachio or many other flavors.
