The Rain Crucifix in Cammarata
A miraculous event is linked to the Rain Crucifix, today kept in the Church of the Annunziata in Cammarata.
Several miracles are linked to the Rain Crucifix, starting from the reason why it is today kept in the Church of the Annunziata. It is said that, in 1751, some inhabitants of Burgio transported a Crucifix commissioned in Palermo to their town. During the journey they were hit by a violent storm and found refuge in the Church of the Annunziata. As soon as the Crucifix entered the church, the rain stopped. The men then went out to continue their journey but, suddenly, the sky turned gray again and the rain fell again. They returned to the church again and the rain stopped again. The same fact was repeated in the following days and therefore the divine will was evident to everyone: the Crucifix had to remain in Cammarata. The Benedictine nuns of the convent attached to the church used the dowry of a young nun from the monastery who had until then been denied the monastic profession due to her blindness, to purchase the Crucifix which was thus placed on the main altar of the church. Church.
The first miracle occurred immediately: the young woman, who became a nun, miraculously regained her sight.
A second miracle instead explains the anomalous position of the legs of the Crucifix which are not crossed as in common iconography: one a short nun who could not reach Christ's feet to kiss them. She prayed to be allowed to touch her tortured feet with her lips and miraculously her legs straightened out.
