The Gallo-Italic dialect spoken in Novara di Sicilia and the diffusion of cicerchia in the village have a common origin.
The Gallo-Italic dialect of Novara di Sicilia has been registered in the Register of Intangible Heritage of the Region of Sicily since 2017. This dialect replaces the Sicilian dialect in several towns in the provinces of Messina, Catania, Syracuse and Enna, which form what is known as "Sicilian Lombardy ".
This dialect comes from an ethnic mix between local people and those who arrived in Sicily from the regions of Lombardy, Liguria and Piedmont following Queen Adelasia, third wife of Roger I of Sicily and mother of Roger II, in the 12th century .
It is also believed that the arrival of cicheria in Sicily is linked to the arrival of these populations. In fact, it is no coincidence that in countries where the Gallo-Italic dialect is spoken it is still easy to eat a good dish of this legume.
