The history of the Galletti family and that of the village of San Cataldo are intimately connected.
The Galletti family is a noble family that in Sicily was invested with numerous fiefdoms including six principalities, two duchies, four marquisates, a county and numerous baronies; he occupied two hereditary seats in the Sicilian Parliament and many personalities distinguished themselves by holding public offices.
The role played by the Galletti family in the foundation of the village of San Cataldo is of particular importance: Niccolò Galletti, baron of Fiumesalato, in 1607 asked King Philip III the permission to populate the district, and he obtained it in 1621. In 1627 Vincenzo Galletti was invested with the title of Marquis of San Cataldo and this feud was handed down from father to son until the end of feudalism.
The importance of this family for the village of San Cataldo is testified by the fact that in the mother church, built at the behest of the Galletti family, and consecrated in 1739 by the Bishop of Catania Mons. Pietro Galletti, there are still today the monumental tombs of some exponents of the Galletti family.
