The area of Rocche del Crasto, Rocca Traùra and the Rosmarino valley below, in the Nebrodi Park, are nesting sites for numerous birds of prey.
Thanks to a reintroduction project, the Griffon vulture has also returned to live in the Park. It is a powerful bird of prey, skilled in exploiting the ascending currents created by the sirocco wind near the rocky walls.
The presence of these large vultures in the Nebrodi Park has great importance both for their ecological and the Griffons perform (they are scavengers of the environment as they feed on animal carcasses) and because, being the only colony in the whole of southern Italy, they allow genetic continuity with the other populations of Griffons in the rest of the peninsula.
