Legend of the Cyclops Bronte
According to mythology, the city of Bronte, located along the slopes of Etna, was founded by the Cyclops Bronte.
The legend tells of the cyclops Bronte, a gigantic being with a human form, whose name means "thunder", and his brothers Sterope, "lightning", and Piracmon, "burning anvil", who were at the service of the god Vulcan. The Cyclops had been condemned to work at the forge of the god inside the bowels of Etna and had the task of manufacturing Jupiter's lightning bolts and the weapons of the heroes. According to tradition, in fact, the Cyclops were the first Bronte artisans.
The myth is also reflected in the writings of Virgil who in his verses tells of Bronte and his two blacksmith friends in the divine workshop.
