origine-nome-cammarata

According to some hypotheses, the term Cammarata could derive from the Byzantine Greek term Kàmara, i.e. room, vault or cave. Hypothesis which could be explained by the existence of a cave in the mountain.
Another hypothesis instead derives the term Cammarata from the Arabic Kamrat, i.e. wine, or from the term Kammarat, i.e. tavern. This last hypothesis could be confirmed by the fact that this municipality, although alpine, is full of gardens and vineyards and in the past it is possible that in these places there was a tavern, a stopping place for travellers.
