Written on the streets of Palazzolo Acreide
Along the streets of Palazzolo Acreide, engraved on the walls of ancient buildings, there are inscriptions that tell the story of the town.
Through these inscriptions, still visible today on the walls of ancient buildings and monuments, it is possible to reconstruct the ancient borders of the neighborhoods and moments in the history of this city.
Among the inscriptions that can still be clearly read today, there are those that recall the terrible bombing of 10 July 1943 which destroyed many houses and killed many inhabitants. One of these inscriptions is found in via Maddalena, near Corso Vittorio Emanuele.
There are other inscriptions that date back to the war period such as the one in via Garibaldi, attributable to Mussolini: "The Italian people created with their blood the The empire will fertilize it with its work and defend it against anyone with its weapons".
Another inscription on via Garibaldi on the wall of a house marks the border between two districts: "District of the parish of San Sebastiano ”.
Another inscription is the one reported in piazza Giovanni Nigro which recalls the house where Giuseppe Fava lived.
There are also more recent inscriptions, such as those in piazza del Popolo at the Town Hall which recall historical moments of the town or the one in the course Vittorio Emanuele dedicated to Antonino Uccello.
