Saleri House in Caltagirone
Casa Saleri in Caltagirone, known as Palazzo della Magnolia due to the enchanting intertwining of magnolias and foliage sculpted on the balconies that makes the facade a vertical garden, is one of the most important private buildings in the city.
The building is located in a position that does not enhance its beauty: in a narrow street that does not allow you to appreciate the entire façade between two anonymous buildings.
The construction of the monumental terracotta façade dates back to the early 1900s and in it the liberty styles , Neo-Gothic and Baroque intertwine giving rise to the eclectic style known locally as the floral style.
The terracotta inserts are manufactured by the Vella terracotta factory, made following a careful project carried out specifically for the Saleri house. What makes this building unique is the structural, as well as ornamental, importance of terracotta. In fact, these are not only purely decorative applications, but entire parts such as the shelves, balconies and bricks on the ground floor contribute, with a play of forces, to give support to the structure.
