Church of San Domenico in Caltanissetta
The Church of San Domenico in Caltanissetta stands in the center of the oldest part of the city, next to the adjoining Dominican convent. The exact date of its foundation is not known. The first historical sources date back to 1480 when the Moncada family chose this place of worship as the seat of their burial.
For a long time the church of San Domenico, which was located in a central position, had a privileged role within the city, so much so that the open space in front, then wider, was the main square of the town. Inside was the seat of the brotherhood of the Rosary, which included the notables of the city who had their oratory here.
The façade, in Baroque style, is convex in the center and concave laterally. It appears to be incomplete due to the never completed bell tower.
The interior, with three naves, houses valuable works of art including the canvas of the Madonna by Filippo Paladini from 1614, placed on the high altar.
