The museum structure qualifies as one of the most important in the Island from a scientific point of view by virtue of the valuable archaeological collections housed. In fact, they offer a complete picture of the material culture of the indigenous Sicane populations who lived in this part of the territory before and after the foundation of the Greek colony of Gela on the coast (689/688 BC).
Among the works exhibited are the bronze finds, and above all ceramics of the VII-IV century. The Museum also houses the finds from the site of Polizzello, near Mussomeli, fundamental for the knowledge of the indigenous cultures of the Iron Age (IX-VII century BC), whose artistic production , was strongly influenced by the Aegean-Mycenaean tradition mediated by the nuclei of transmarine people who came into contact with the island as early as the 15th-14th century. to.
