Normans Castle of Delia

The Castle of Delia, also known as Medieval Castle of Sabuci and called by the locals Castidazzu, stands in a dominant position on a limestone greenhouse in the Valle del Salso.
In the past it played a strategic role in commercial exchanges with the Sicilian hinterland given its proximity to the Salso river.
The site where the castle stands, as evidenced by the excavation campaigns conducted, was populated starting from the third millennium BC
The structure of the castle is divided into four levels: the first level has a variable height that adapts to the morphology of the land, with lower altitudes to the north. In the eastern part is the entrance, covered with a pointed barrel vault; the second level corresponds to the floor above the entrance vault; the third level still retains the only covered room that has come down to us today, located in the north wing, which has a pointed arch vaulted roof and five loopholes on the walls; the last has, on the southern front, a crenellated walkway that leads to an apsidal room; to the north are the remains of the tower in which four windows open to the west.
