City Palace in Piazza Garibaldi
The Palazzo di Città in Piazza Armerina, born as the seat of the Capitanale Court, is an important historical building of the city.
It was built in 1773 at the behest of the Benedictines, in 1777 it became the seat of the city senate. The construction of the facade dates back to 1783 and took place thanks to the contribution of the people and the conspicuous one of the Marquis Luigi trigona della Floresta.
The facade, in late Baroque style, has two orders of pilasters formed by freestone elements. At the first rodine is the large sandstone portal surmounted by a frontispiece bearing the city's coat of arms. On the second tier there are three large balconies communicating with each other through a gallery with a wrought iron railing. Above the cornice which concludes the second order there is a particular crowning element which contains a clock.
The portal leads to a large room characterized by the presence of four large columns which define a central area with a barrel lunette , separated from the two side areas covered by cross vaults. Upstairs there are five rooms communicating with each other. The main room, which overlooks Piazza Garibaldi with three balconies, has a pavilion vault entirely frescoed by the Palermitan painter Martorana.
