Ramacca

State: CT - Area: Central Sicily

Ramacca rises on the edge of the plain of Catania, in the heart of Sicily.
Its history is not very ancient, it rises in the Middle Ages, undergoing the domination of many noble families, and when in 1688 the lord of the Fief of Ramacca, Sancio Gravina, undertook to create a inhabited center to obtain the title of prince, the current Ramacca was founded.
Its particular geographical location, the Mediterranean climate and the fertility of the land have favored the agricultural vocation of this center. The most common agricultural product in this area is wheat. This crop is so widespread that a local variety, the Margherito, has been selected. Another agricultural product of excellence is the Violet Artichoke, a variety known throughout Italy.
