The Living Nativity of Balata di Baida is set in a particularly suggestive place: a small cluster of houses, a traditional baglio , the first inhabited nucleus of the small hamlet, surrounded by prickly pears, sumacs, olive trees and endemic plants. This place comes to life during the Christmas period, transforming itself into one of the most beautiful living nativity scenes in Sicily .
One of the characteristics that make the living nativity scene in Balata di Baida unique is the incredible involvement of the visitor , called to personally participate in the representation, who will have to step into the shoes of a traveler of that time, collaborate and become an accomplice in a game, a journey that will take him into the everyday world of the people Sicilian farmer, discovering distant and often forgotten uses and traditions.
The Balata di Baida nativity scene has a large number of figures who reproduce the ancient crafts of rural civilization in Sicily, peasant activities, local crafts, daily life, and of course the traditional characters of the nativity scene, such as the Holy Family, the shepherds, and the Magi who bring a touch of exoticism with the pomp of their costumes.
Part viv a and very important of the crib are the animals : there is the sheepfold with the sheep, the pigsty with the sow and pigs, the chicken coop with chickens, dogs, peacocks, geese, rabbits, donkeys, horses…. For this reason, the Balata di Baida nativity scene is also recommended for families with children.
