Corleonese Carnival

The Carnival in Corleone traditionally opens with the Historic Horse Carnival which includes a large procession of riders accompanied by flag-wavers, musicians and drummers. Prominent figures from the equestrian world are hosted every year and take part in the honorary jury.
The Corleone Carnival traditionally includes, on Shrove Sunday and Tuesday, the parade of floats, mini-carts, masked groups, musical bands and knights through the streets of the city. At the end of the celebrations, the neighborhood trophy is awarded to the group that created the best allegorical float.
On Carnival Tuesday, traditionally, the chase of the porcu frisatu took place, that is the pursuit of a little pig, a legacy of an ancient pagan festival. The little pig was left free in the streets of the historic center and led to the tree-lined space of the public gardens where it will be captured.
