Carnival in Cinisi 2025
Every year the Carnival in Cinisi animates the main street of the town, Corso Umberto I, with parades of papier-mâché floats, masked groups and macchiette.
To open the festivities on the Saturday before Shrove Tuesday is Lu Nannu, the typical mask of the place, which is led from the railway station to the center of the village accompanied by a festive procession of majorettes, drummers and the musical band. In fact, it is a tradition to go dressed in masks to the station to welcome u nannu.
On Carnival Sunday, the parade of allegorical papier-mâché floats, masked groups and caricatures winds its way.
The On Monday of Carnival there is a sausage-based wedding banquet in which all the masks take part, followed by the traditional historical ride of Cinisi. This ancient tradition recalls the masquerades on horseback that took place in Palermo in the eighteenth century.
The festivities end on Shrove Tuesday. After the usual parade of floats and masked groups, the funeral of u Nannu takes place accompanied by the cries of pain of men and women dressed in mourning.
