Cavalcade of San Giuseppe in Donnalucata

On the occasion of the celebrations in honor of San Giuseppe the cavalcade of San Giuseppe usually takes place in Donnalucata, a particular infiorata on horseback. In fact, there is a parade of horses that are richly harnessed with cloaks made by weaving flowers on a jute weft. On these mantles the Holy Family and the flight into Egypt are represented, often sacred symbols recur together with plots that recall the local tradition. The riders accompanying the harnessed horses are dressed in the traditional dress: black velvet trousers, vest of the same color, white shirt, black boots, the "burritta", typical headdress, a red neckerchief and a colored sash at the waist.
The Cavalcade of Donnalucata anticipates the historical one of Scicli.

09:00 Gathering and start of the parade of Sicilian carts and harnessed horses at via Roba delle Navi (former fruit and vegetable market) preceded by the “Faiddri” Folk Group of Enna.

11:00 Solemn Holy Mass, animated by the parish choir with the participation of the civil and military authorities of the city of Scicli.

12:00 Arrival of the parade of Sicilian carts and harnessed horses in the churchyard of the church of S. Caterina da Siena; Opening and Blessing of the Traditional Dinner. Auction of gifts in the Traditional Dinner, offered by devotees to San Giuseppe.

16:30 Procession with the Venerated Simulacrum of Saint Joseph, accompanied by the “Busacca-Borrometi” Band - City of Scicli

Return of the Procession and auction of gifts in the Traditional Dinner, offered by devotees to Saint Joseph.
