Feast of San Calogero Hermit in Naro
The Feast of the Patron Saint San Calogero Eremita in Naro is celebrated in January and in the month of June.
The Feast of the Patron Saint San Calogero Eremita in January takes place on the 11th as thanksgiving for having preserved the village by the terrible earthquake of 1693 in the Val Di Noto. On the occasion of the anniversary, the simulacrum of the saint is carried in procession through the streets of the city.
The patronal feast of Naro takes place in the month of June. A busy religious program precedes the day of the liturgical feast, June 18.
During the celebrations for the Patron Saint, the blessing of bread takes place, the peculiarity of which is that it takes the form of different members of the body of the Saint.
The celebrations for San Calogero culminate with the solemn procession of the simulacrum of the Saint through the streets of the historic centre. It is customary, during the procession, for the faithful to wipe the sweat off the Saint with a handkerchief and then place the same handkerchief on a diseased part of their body, asking the Saint to heal it.
During the feast of San Calogero in Naro are organized folk shows, music, and entertainment. In addition, the fair-market is traditionally organized in honor of the Saint, where you can buy sacred objects but also typical local products.
