Festa di San Cono
The Festa di San Cono is the patronal feast of the village of San Cono. It takes place every year on the second Sunday of May. It is one of the most felt moments by the population, so much so that it constitutes a moment of return to their own country for numerous emigrants.
The procession of the Simulacrum of the Saint takes place on the eve of the festival, donated by inhabitants of San Cono who emigrated to Venezuela, which is carried on shoulders from the church of San Cono through the streets of the town and then to the mother church.
On Sunday, in the morning, the simulacrum of the Saint is brought from its church to the Mother Church; in the evening the vara is first placed in front of the church, where the offers of the faithful are collected, which are shouted out loud together with the names of the offerers; the people respond with the characteristic cry Viva Diu e Santu Conu. At the end of the collection, the heavy simulacrum is carried on the shoulders through the streets of the town, with its characteristic gait that is more like a run of the Saint. The procession continues throughout the night, offerings continue to be collected, prayers and songs are sung. The festival ends at midnight with the firing of fireworks.
The following Saturday and Sunday, the Octave festival, similar events to the previous week are repeated.
For several weeks the town is celebrating and alternate moments of devotion with folkloristic events: the central square and all the streets are filled with lights, the bells and the band ring in celebration, fireworks are fired, and in the main streets there is a succession of stalls
