Feast of San Sebastiano in Syracuse
The celebration of San Sebastiano in Syracuse, patron saint of the city, takes place on January 20th, on the occasion of the liturgical feast.
The celebrations begin a few days before with the opening of the niche which houses the simulacrum of San Sebastiano and the subsequent translation to the main altar.
On the feast day, as per tradition, the blessed bread of San Sebastiano is distributed, the Solemn Eucharistic Celebration takes place and the procession of the Simulacrum takes place through the streets of the city centre. The celebrations end with the auction of gifts offered to the Saint and the setting off of fireworks.
