Feast of Saint Lucia in Belpasso
The Feast of Saint Lucia in Belpasso takes place on December 13, the day of the liturgical celebration, and on the first Sunday in August when the feast of the patronage of Saint Lucia takes place.
In December solemn celebrations take place in Belpasso.
On the eve of the feast, December 12, in the late afternoon, the procession of the holy relics takes place from the Church of Sant'Antonio Abbot up to the Mother Church. In addition to the evocative procession of the relics, we witness the opening of the carrios di Santa Lucia: evocative Baroque scenic machines that narrate the life of the Saint and her cult in Belpasso. The floats reach a considerable height of over fifteen meters and a width of about ten meters and are assembled on a trailer.
On December 13 in the morning the simulacrum of the Saint is unveiled which is placed on the silver fercolo and carried in procession through the streets of the town.
On December 14 in the afternoon the simulacrum of the Saint is still carried in procession along the streets of the matrix district and on her return to the Church, you can watch the traditional race. After the closing fire, the simulacrum is placed in its room.
On holidays, the Santa Lucia Market generally takes place with tasting stands and typical handicraft products.

The Sacred Body of Saint Lucia V. M. visit Belpasso
14:30 Devout welcome of the Sacred Body of Saint Lucia greeted by the sound of the sacred bronzes of the Belpassese churches and by twenty-one cannon salutes.
The Urn containing the Sacred Remains of the Syracusan Martyr will be enthroned on the silver Fercolo while the faithful will join in the performance of the ancient Cantata a S. Lucia intoned by the Youth Singers from the Matrice neighbourhood.
The procession will follow between songs, prayers and cheers from the devotees

With a solemn procession, the Urn, carried on the arm, will arrive in the churchyard of the Collegiate Mother Church. Solemn Pontifical presided over by His Exc. Most Rev. Monsignor Luigi Renna, Metropolitan Archbishop of Catania. Concelebrating are the Archbishops Mons. Salvatore Gristina and Mons. Salvatore Pappalardo, the Very Rev. Father Abbot Dom Ildebrando Scicolone, the Chapter of Canons of the Collegiate Church of Belpasso and the agreed clergy. The Civil and Military Authorities will be present. A single large choir, made up of singers from the parishes of Belpasso, will animate the liturgy.
At the end of the celebration: entry of the Venerated Body into the Church.
18:00 Opening of the access gates to allow entry into the Mother Church and veneration of the Sacred Body of St. Lucia.

19:00 Prayer vigil animated by the young people of Catholic Action and the Scouts of Belpasso with the presence of His Excellency the Archbishop.

The church will remain open all night to allow the faithful to enter and pray.
